The Great Rivers Greenway District
is developing The River ring, a region-wide system of
interconnected Greenways, parks and trails. The Greenway
district was established in November 2000 by the Clean
Water, Safe Parks and Community Trails Initiative (Prop
C) in St. Charles/St. Louis counties and the City of
St. Louis. The River Ring will encircle the St. Louis
region, including St. Charles County and parts of southern
Illinois. The ring will eventually comprise a 600-mile
web of more than 45 Greenways, parks and trails linking
three counties, joining two states and covering an area
of 1,216 square miles.
